If it is a "wind resistance" bike you will mostly burn calories and add a little bit of muscle, mostly just harden yout existing muscles by keeping blood flow in them.
If you have a "magnetic resistance" bike you can adjust the tension from "hard to easy" and burn calories and build muscle. You can increase the tension so far that you can only get 10-15 pedals out, (that will build muscle) Or decrease it to burn calories.
If your bike is new (and wind resistance) return it or keep it (depending on your financial situation) and get a "magnetic" one.
Wall Mart has one for less than $100. Good luck.

They are all great for weightloss because its cardio. Jumping rope for 20 minutes sounds hard. i would do a combination circuit of elliptical, jogging and then bike. This will give you 1 hour of cardio which is great. Watch your calorie intake.

This bike is well made and sturdy. It was not too hard to put together and rides well. The only thing I am not fond of is that the digital display is a bit hard to read. I plan to call Stamina to make sure I have not missed something as to the illumination. As far as I can tell it does not light up. You can see it as long as you have enough light in the room.The shipment arrived very fast and well packaged. All in all I am happy with my purchase.

the only problem with the jump rope is that you'll get tired faster and less likely to go on an hour.

as for myself, i find the elliptical an easy effective cardio work out. i can be on there for an hour or more because although i am working out my legs and arms, i still don't find myself out of breath to the point where i need to stop.

On December 30, 2010, I ordered this bike. It arrived three weeks later in a horribly battered box with parts dropping out. I returned it requesting a replacement. It is now February 14 and I have heard nothing from the company or Amazon. To say I would never order from this company again is putting it mildly.

I agree with Mike - Skipping far exceeds any of the other forms of cardio.

The reason for this is because it uses a lot more of the body to perform the action. You have to propel your body into the air to jump the rope, whilst using your arms to keep the rope moving.

Jogging always keeps one foot on the ground so technically it is propelling half your bodyweight compared to skipping.

Elliptical cross trainers keep both feet on the ground so you're not working as hard to move the body.

Recumbent bike - your sitting down! Its only your legs being used for this one.

Go to a local bike shop, have yourself fitted for a test ride on a comfort bike (the most likely bike type with a riding position similar to the position of a stationary bike). Take a test ride, get an idea for how the seat feels, if it is more comfortable, it could be a number of factors... First, once fitted for a real bike, use the same type of fit adjustments for your stationary bike. That alone will help with SOME discomfort for most people. The other likely candidates are seat angle (ask how to adjust the seat angle while being fitted) which for females generally should be very slightly nose down, whereas for men it can be generally closer to level.
The last option is the saddle itself. Once you have done all these things and it still doesn't fix the problem, get the toolbox out, remove the seat from the seatpost (much easier than it sounds!) and take it into a bike shop, and explain your problem. This is a MUCH more common problem than you might think, and anyone at a good shop will have dealt with dozens, or even HUNDREDS of people with the same issue, so don't feel embarrassed about asking! Anyhow, explain to them what discomfort you feel, and generally where you feel it (center, sides, inside thigh, sit bones... ) and they can make some suggestions as to a worthwhile replacement. Gel pads as recommended above are a decent method of helping, but they generally start to break down or wander after extended use, requiring cleaning/moving/replacing fairly often. So a dedicated saddle better suited to your physical needs is a better idea.
The reason I recommend taking the seat in with you is that there may be a proprietary seatpost clamp on the seat itself, and if so, the shop will need to see it to be sure they can help you out!

Many - if not all - of the other bikes at this price point aren't ideal for tall people; they don't really cater to those of us who are a couple standard deviations above (or below) the average height on the bell curve. So with some other bikes, if you're tall, you might not be able to get your legs to extend properly.
<br />
<br />This bike's seat is adjustable along the diagonal, which was smart IMO as it lets the seat get pretty far away from the pedals while still keeping the bike frame itself relatively compact in terms of height and width. I'm 6' 5" and I fit fine. The easy adjustability is nice for tall people too, because if you live with anyone else, they're likely not nearly the same height as you.
<br />
<br />The bike itself is pretty nice for its price. The tension is easily adjustable from the handlebars and the seat is comfortable. So far it has been quiet and is holding up well to use.
<br />
<br />I removed one star because of the little display pad thing; it's beeps every time you get on or off the bike, it shuts off / resets too easily, and the heartbeat sensor and calorie counter seems way off. I pretty much just ignore the little display pad thing.

Hands down jumping rope. It burns twice as many calories as jogging or the eliptical and almost 3 times as many calories as the recumbant bike. Not to mention, it also works the upper body as far as toning goes. Stick with jumping rope!!

The elliptical i think would be best as far as fat burn, as for cardiovasulcar? I think the jumping or the jogging. But honestly, if your goal is to burn fat, start power walking uphill on the treadmill. If you want good cardio, try circuit training for faster results.

You can find specific cushions for them. They make them with gel pads and other stuff that are rather comfurtable. Try searching them on google and see what you can find.

Wal-mart and bike shops sell padded seat covers. I have a gel one that works great on my mountain bike. See below for the one I bought.

I bought this from [...] at 179.99 months ago for my own Christmas present. It has been a godsend. It helps me stay motivated and is an integral part of a 25lb weight loss so far. The 4-star rating is because of the many pieces it comes in and no tension adjustment from handlebars. Fortunately for me, my son Sam works on putting bikes together at his job so.... thank you son. I still highly recommend this bargain.

I am probably in a good position to answer this because I ride both a standard upright bike and a recumbent trike. It did take some time to develop the muscles used by the recumbent (the recumb-butt), but I am now a much stronger climber on the trike.

The difference appears to be in the mechanics involved. The maximum force that can be applied to the peddles on the upright is my body weight. There is just no way to push down more than I weigh. But on the trike the maximum force that can be applied to the peddles is a function of my leg strength because I am pressing against the seat.

In the gym I can leg press much more than my body weight. So for me, the decreased air drag is probably offset by the increased weight of the trike, but when I am climbing the leg strength makes it easier on the recumbent. And it is definitely more fun.

I ordered this product after conducting a lot of research on recumbent bicycles. I purchased this product from Bayou Fitness through Amazon.com. The first thing that went wrong was that when it arrived the box had been badly damaged in shipping and the bike was so damaged that it was impossible to even put it together. I contacted Bayou Fitness requesting a refund. A week later instead of the money I received a new bike. I wasn't particularly happy about it because I had found a different one that I was considering purchasing but I decided to give it another try. On a happy note, both times I received the 4550 model which was an upgrade at no additional cost. Too bad that this bike didn't work! The box was in perfect condition and the bike wasn't bent like the last one. This time the computer didn't work. Without the computer it is impossible to adjust the tension and it was so tight it took all your strength to get the pedals to go around just once! I contacted Bayou Fitness and was told to contact the manufacturer (Stamina). I told the operator what the problem was and was told that a new computer would be sent out ASAP and it should arrive in 3-5 business days. I waited 10 before calling again. This time I was told that the part I needed was on backorder and had been for a couple of months now with no date of when it may come in. Now I start to get really ticked off. I contacted Bayou Fitness and told them that I wanted my money back and the bike was back in the box all ready to be picked up by Fed-Ex all she needed to do was issue a call tag # like before. Not so fast I'm told. Stamina doesn't take returns on damaged bikes but they issued a credit for the full purchase price and tell me to destroy the bike. Now today... exactly 2 months since I first ordered the bike I have received the credit in my bank account but I'm stuck with a broken bike. If I take it to the dump it'll cost me money to throw it away. My advice... stay away from Bayou Fitness and Stamina products! I went to walmart and got the Gold's Gym power spin 230 R and I love it!!!! And yes... they really do want me to destroy it - they even sent me an email requesting that I do so! Apparently they expect their customers to deal with their trash!

It's the length of the wheel base.

Most bents have a much longer wheel base than traditional double diamonds.

New trike designs have shorter wheel bases and climb better than their super long parent generation.

All I can think of is what I do with my tadpole, I put it up on stands/jacks and simulate the motions in the garage.

did have a problem where a home-made shim I made was interfering with the disc caliper -made weird braking noises.

check toe in? spoke tension? Tire not seated on rim correctly?

Your wheel maybe out of true, you should get this checked out to make sure that it is true. If it is out of true it can pose a serious danger to you and your bike. Another option that it maybe is that you need to replace or re-lube the bearings in your hub.
