Hello everyone, yes, I realize I'm overweight. However, I'm sick of being fat, and would like to look and feel my best. I've had too many years of low self-esteem. I own a recumbent bicycle, as well as aerobic/pilates/yoga DVDs. What would be a good exercise routine (amount, etc) and diet for someone with flabby abs and developing cellulite? I'm tired of my out of shape body. I'd like to lose 50 lbs in 6 months or less, is this possible?!? Thanks to everyone!

I want to buy a recumbent bike. I am considering the Nautilus 2000 or the Vision Fitness 2150 or 2200. They all have similar features, so I am inquiring primarily about the quality of the bike and comfort with extended use.
Guys, I appreciate the "outside sentiment", however, I live in Houston. Riding a bike outside here will get you 1- killed and 2- skin cancer. Anyone know anything about specific brands of INSIDE exercise bikes. Thanks.

I got in a pretty bad skiing accident in 2002, and have since not been able to comfortably ride a regular style bike. I'm not sure if a recumbent would help, since it's mainly the seat of the bike that causes discomfort. (I fractured my pelvis in 5 places.) Does anyone know of a different style bike seat or affordable bike that I might be able to use? I live in Missoula, MT if anyone knows of any helpful bike shops. Thanks!

I'm looking at getting one for weight loss/general fitness. And was looking between these two models. The 240 has some additional programs, a heavier flywheel and a color screen but I'm not sure if any of that will make any difference to me. Anyone have the 220 and can provide some opinions?

I had hoped to find both at a store to compare but I can't seem to find both at one location. They either have various combinations of the Schwinn models, but never those two side by side. If anyone knows a store in the Philly suburbs, I'd appreciate that too!
Thank you Bob, actually there are a couple things about that. The price of the 240 is actually $450 most places ($350 for the 220, and $400 for the older 230 model being phased out), Amazon seems to have 'run out' and it defaulted to one of their stores that has it at full retail, hence the $700 pricetag. The other thing I noticed was the options you listed from the comparison chart seem inaccurate (not because of you), if you look at the photos of the console, the 220 has the Interval time, rpm, etc listed as well. I noticed them before while comparing the screens online.

Sorry about that, I should have mentioned those details as one of the reasons I was looking for someone that knew the models personally. As the facts listed online seem a bit suspect.

I have been looking at the Edge 440 recumbent exercise bike, but cannot find any information on how good they are. I haven't heard of Edge before and wonder if anyone has anything made by them or where I might be able to go online to find any reviews on it.
Also if someone has one that they would like to recommend. It is going to be a gift for my father who is approx 6'2" with long legs so the seat needs to be quite adjustable. Thanks

I currently have a Long wheel-base Rans Tailwind, which I love dearly, but as I'm now having to use it for transportation, the fact that it will not fit on a buses bicycle rack is a bit troublesome, so I was thinking about finding a SWB recumbent for my everyday bike. Two feet of snow and ice along with freezing rain do not make for ideal outdoor riding conditions and I'm currently waiting for my new cycling trainer to arrive after the shipping was delayed for the holidays. In the meantime, I've pulled the front fork off of an old single speed Huffy I had lying around gathering dust with the intent of using it as a (temporary) makeshift recumbent exercise bike. I'm looking for any suggestions on how to increase the resistance against my pedaling.
I'm not looking to ride this bike outdoors. I stopped using the bike when I was ten years old and in the intervening thirteen years, I've grown quite a bit. :)

I should have mentioned earlier. The bike has the type of brake that you have to put reverse pressure on to lock up the rear wheel. (Coaster brake?)

My parents have owned one of these contraptions for about 2.5 years now and used it rarely.
Recently my father attempted to use it but the computer did not start up thereby preventing full usage.
I have called several places but nobody can seem to give me a straight answer.
If anybody here knows or can find something to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

Wondering how good these things are at burning off calories. I get bored very easily when on a treadmil and hate the upright stationary bikes because they are uncomfortable. I would buy a regular bike and go outside, but I am very uncomfortable with my weight right now. So would this be a good buy, since I could watch tv and what not while riding it or is it a bad buy because it doesnt do much for you.

I have no cartilage between my femur and patella (actually one sixteenth of an inch is all). Both knees are affected. I need to do aerobic exercises, but the only thing I've been able to do is swim, and I can't do it year round because there are no indoor pools here. I never get to a good level of fitness because it takes me all summer to work up to a good aerobic level--if I do it too quickly, my shoulders go. I have been told that a Lifecycle Recumbent bicycle would work for me, but others have told me no bicycle at all. What do I do? Help!
