you will burn more calories with the elliptical overall.

both are good exercises. if you only have access to one, i would say the ellptical, but if you have access to both, you should use both. i wouldn’t do both on the same day, but if you do 4 workouts a week, do two on each, because they work your body differently and it will be the most beneficial to get both types of exercise.
