Why is my recumbent trike wheel noisy?

15 Mar

I have a recumbent trike (an ActionBent Tadpole) and the right front wheel makes noise like there was a playing card hitting the spokes. I thought it was the brake making contact on the disc brake, but I don’t think so now after playing with the brake. It increases in volume when I’m turning left and decreases/silences when I’m pulling right. What is the cause of this?
Well, thanks for answers! Unfortunately, I won’t be needing them right now. I wrecked the trike yesterday on the way home (due to my own carelessness, not any lack of safety of the trike or trikes in general). Anyways, I landed pretty hard on that wheel as I rolled around, so the earlier noise isn’t going to be an issue. Unfortunately, leaving me without a ride for Ride Your Bike To Work Day today, but…

Your wheel maybe out of true, you should get this checked out to make sure that it is true. If it is out of true it can pose a serious danger to you and your bike. Another option that it maybe is that you need to replace or re-lube the bearings in your hub.

All I can think of is what I do with my tadpole, I put it up on stands/jacks and simulate the motions in the garage.

did have a problem where a home-made shim I made was interfering with the disc caliper -made weird braking noises.

check toe in? spoke tension? Tire not seated on rim correctly?
